Government Welcome

Welcome to Government Officials

What is CAMESE?

CAMESE is a trade association made up of Canadian member companies offering products and services to the mining industry. It was established in 1981 for the purpose of assisting members in exporting their goods and services.

The association’s more than 300 corporate members across the country supply the entire mining industry spectrum including mineral exploration, mine development, mining, mineral processing, environmental monitoring, smelting and refining.

The great strength of CAMESE is the members themselves. Most of these companies have been founded in Canada, initially to serve the Canadian mining industry, an important producer of mineral wealth. The Canadian mining industry is very demanding. As a result, the companies that serve it offer high value, advanced technology.

In brief, CAMESE provides its members with cost-effective, international marketing support that is complementary to their own marketing and selling efforts. It is also the only organization collectively representing suppliers in advocating for a strengthened mining industry in Canada.

Services to Government

Here are some ways in which CAMESE partners with government officials, departments and agencies in their efforts to promote excellence in business and exporting by Canadian mining suppliers:

  • Promotion of government programs to the membership through CAMESE's internal publications. This includes news of in-coming mining buyers and trade commissioners, government-sponsored seminars on exporting or business topics, and more,
  • Provision of copies of the CAMESE Compendium of Canadian Mining Suppliers to Canadian trade officials for their reference and for distribution in local markets,
  • Arranging exhibit facilities for government booths or government-sponsored trade missions in "Canada" Pavilions in mining trade shows around the world,
  • Advice and assistance regarding government marketing efforts to the mining sector for trade or investment as well as in mining policy matters,
  • Information on topics such as the following: Canadian mining supply capacity, sustainability of the mining industry, productivity and innovation in mining, mining regulatory issues, and export trade issues, particularly for SMEs.
  • Partnerships with governments on specialized initiatives such as solo mining missions to specific target markets or seminars such as the MinE-com 2001 Conferences on E-Commerce in the Mining Industry.
  • We publicize government issued country market intelligence reports, as well as news of tender calls and other procurement opportunities sent to us by government officials.

In brief, CAMESE helps government officials with advice, assistance and publicity in their efforts to strengthen the mining industry and promote business and exporting excellence by Canadian mining suppliers.

CAMESE’s Continuing Partnerships with Government

Canada

CAMESE continues to participate in the PEMD Trade Association Activities program, administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT). This financial support, amounting to about 7.5% of CAMESE’s annual budget, is critical to the association’s abilities to represent and promote the Canadian mining supply sector at international events. This assistance is much appreciated, as is the advice and support that CAMESE receives from officials of DFAIT.

CAMESE also works closely with officials of Natural Resources Canada to promote the well being of Canada’s mining sector generally, and our mining suppliers in particular. This relationship relies heavily on sharing information and on support of each other’s activities.

Industry Canada monitors Canada’s industrial sectors and advises government on industrial policy. We are pleased to have an excellent relationship with this ministry as well.

Ontario

Since 1995, the Ontario Ministry of Northern Development and Mines, Ontario Exports Inc. and CAMESE have worked in partnership to promote the mining sector. The CAMESE-Ontario partnership is based on the mutual belief that industry associations are well-positioned to get the job done, whether it be in research and development, through workplace issues or by international marketing.

Regional Economic Development Agencies

CAMESE provides publicity, advice and assistance to a number of regional economic development agencies, including 48e Nord International, Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions, City of Greater Sudbury, and FedNor.

CAMESE Compendium

The CAMESE Compendium of Canadian Mining Suppliers is an annual publication designed to showcase the more than 250 mining suppliers that comprise our membership. It is an attractive, full-colour, glossy magazine of 152 pages. We believe that the Compendium is one of the best publications in its category, promoting the export capabilities of a national Canadian industrial sector.

No matter where or when mining company personnel gather, Canada's mining strengths can be highlighted by the CAMESE Compendium. It promotes Canada's mining suppliers' capabilities in mineral exploration, mine development, mining, mineral processing, environmental monitoring, smelting and refining and more. Canadian mining suppliers have something to offer regardless of the commodity, be it gold, copper, zinc, nickel, uranium, coal, industrial minerals, diamonds, sand, gravel or stone.

CAMESE and its members encourage government representatives to have a place for the CAMESE Compendium at any opportunity you have for mining company personnel to take one. Please let us know when you need some Compendiums and, if possible, please include instructions for sending overseas shipments via diplomatic bag.
