BESTECH supports local graduating students

15/6/2012 -

Sudbury, June 15, 2012 – BESTECH is pleased to support the training and educational needs of Sudbury university, college and high school students by offering 13 coop placements and three graduation bursaries this year. Coop placements were given to students from Laurentian University, University of Guelph, Michigan State University (Sudbury resident), Cambrian College, and Lockerby Composite School. Of the group, one lucky graduate received a $1,000 bursary. Last night, the engineering firm also handed out two bursaries of $200 each to two graduating students from École secondaire Hanmer who have chosen to pursue post-secondary studies in a field related to one of BESTECH’s specialties.

BESTECH provides opportunities for coop students to apply technical skills to assist in the advancement of ground-breaking products and in the development of incredible industrial projects in the community. This year, the innovative firm decided to try something different in order to attract a student to its Marketing department in hope to gain some assistance with product promotion.

BESTECH approached Collège Boréal’s 2D/3D Animation department for help with the creation of an animated video to demonstrate the state-of-the-art capabilities of RopeInspector™, one of BESTECH’s products related to mine hoisting. Representatives from the college’s 2D/3D Animation department were very supportive of the initiative and immediately suggested that the development of the video be a class assignment and contest for the graduating class.

BESTECH then decided to up the challenge by including a $1,000 bursary and a four-month coop placement at the firm to the student who develops the best video. Six students worked diligently over three weeks creating their videos. After intense review of the submitted videos by BESTECH, Jessica Verrier was awarded the bursary and the coop placement for the summer. Verrier recently earned her 2D/3D Animation diploma and is very excited to be working with BESTECH this summer.

Verrier began her placement at BESTECH on April 23, 2012 and her projects consist of creating additional animated videos for BESTECH’s products to further enhance the Sales & Marketing Team’s promotional materials inventory.

École secondaire Hanmer holds a soft spot for CEOs Marc Boudreau and Denis Pitre, both graduates of the French public high school. With the skill shortage that Northern Ontario is currently experiencing, they want to assist students with the pursuit of post-secondary education in the technical fields so that they will eventually fill the gap.

“We understand the importance of grooming our future leaders in the community and as such, we want to offer graduates a hands-on work environment in order to develop technical, administrative and management skills”, says Marc Boudreau, Co-CEO of BESTECH. “We also want to facilitate further educational and training opportunities for local students so that they can refine their skills and broaden their knowledge in order to be ready for the workplace.”
