Activation Laboratories Ltd. of Ancaster, Ontario, is recognized in the mineral exploration industry as one of the most innovative laboratories developing new geochemical technologies for the discovery of blind mineral deposits. The company also excels at providing routine assaying and environmental analysis requirements out of 14 labs in Canada with a further 17 labs in 12 countries. Actlabs is accredited to the ISO/IEC 17025 Quality System for specific registered tests. It offers a wide range of analytical techniques including INAA (neutron activation), ICP/mass spectrometry (ICP/MS), high-resolution ICP/MS, laser ablation HR-ICP/MS, ICP emission spectrometry (ICP/AES), XRF, atomic absorption and fire assay. Specialty analyses include REE, iron ore, gold, chromite, PGE, uranium and base metal assays. Actlabs’ Geometallurgy department with state-of-the art FEG MLA (mineral liberation analyzer) and FEG GEMSCAN can help optimize recovery of metals and help optimize your exploration program. Actlabs' proprietary Enzyme Leach and Bioleach selective extraction are being used worldwide to discover blind mineral deposits under as much as 400 m. of overburden and cover rock using surface soil as the sample medium. The unique high-quality lithogeochemistry package by fusion ICP and ICP/MS provides all major oxides and 43 trace elements for use in geological research. Actlabs’ hydrogeochemistry package by ICP/MS provides exceptional detection limits for 63 elements in water for geochemical or environmental applications. A recent addition to the company’s scope of services is isotopic ratios for mineral exploration and age dating. The SGH (Soil Gas Hydrocarbon) technique promises to add a new dimension to mineral exploration with the discovery already of two new deposits.
